Stagelink at South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas

It is that time of the year again! It’s March, which means the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival is about to happen again. In honor of this mega event we’d like to take a few moments and summarize its’ most important facts for you.

This annual music event of superlatives takes place in March and was founded 1987 in Austin to represent the Rootsrock and Alternative Country scene of Texas. Today it is one of the biggest music festivals in the world with over 100 festival stages and more than 2,000 showcasing acts that represented over 57 different countries in 2014. Besides countless musical acts that in the past years included famous artists such as Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Jay-Z & Kayne West, just to name a few, there were over 200 conference sessions with a total of 811 speakers in 2014.

Since 1994 SXSW has added two major festival categories: “SXSW Film” with screenings of selected films that will make their world premieres at the festival and conferences that will give insights in digital release strategies, filmmaking techniques, production and many more, as well as “SXSW Interactive”. The latter is meant to present cutting-edge technologies and digital creativity. Networking events, hosted by the leaders of the game- and web-industry, give participants the chance to connect and become up to date with news and trends of the startup world. Researches over the last years showed that 92% of interested parties came from the industry, as 23% of all applicants were CEOs and company directors. It is safe to say that SXSW is a melting pot for the big fish in the music industry.

However, it is not only the business world that is attracted by the event, but also music fans from all over the world. SXSW has an immense impact on the city of Austin, which normally has a population of roughly 880,000 people. It means more than 60,000 booked nights in over 70 hotels for March and an entire city in a state of exception: Bars, clubs and restaurants are at their highest occupancy rate of the year and during the three weeks of the festival 127 official SXSW parties had been registered for 2014. In 2013 the direct and indirect impact of the festival made $218 Million for the city. One must not wonder why they call it the “Live Music Capital of the World”. After Stagelink has already been representing the “German Delegation” at SXSW in 2014, we now have some great big news for you this year:

Stagelink founder Nikolas Schriefer will be performing live as a showcase artist of SXSW 2015. Together with producer and instrumentalist Konstantin Rohleder they will be on stage as Ajnascent!
